Welcome and thank you for choosing Mercy Hospital Dunedin, Otago's private surgical hospital.

Our priority is to ensure the total well-being of our patients and to deliver "Excellence in healthcare".

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Once your surgeon has advised the need for surgery and your consent is given, you will receive hospital forms to fill out. Please post back to Mercy Hospital at least seven (7) days prior to your pre-admission visit.

Remember this is your opportunity to inform your surgeon and the hospital of any specific medical conditions/allergies or any special care needs you may have.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR SURGEON
How long will I have to stay in hospital?
Does my health insurance claim need to be accepted before the surgery? (Prior Approval)
What is generally discussed and who will I meet at pre-admission?
What follow-up treatment occurs?
Do you send your account to me or directly to my health insurance company?

PRE-ADMISSION

You may be asked to come to a pre-admission clinic the night prior to your surgery. At this appointment you will also receive information from the anaesthetist (e.g. type of anaesthetic proposed, when you should stop eating and drinking). This is an opportunity to ask any questions or to discuss any concerns you may have.

DAY OF SURGERY

On the morning of surgery please check in to the Hospital's Main Reception. From here you will be escorted to your room and welcomed by nursing staff who are especially allocated to your care.
