A big thank you to Richard and the Administration team for their efforts to support the “Mercy Cares” Futsal team to enroll into the social Monday night winter Futsal league.
It was great to see the enthusiasm and willingness of participants to get involved, even though some of us had not played futsal before. This particular league that we enrolled in was a “mixed league” where at least 2 female players must be on the court at all times. Futsal is a popular game played around the world, and is a fast paced sport that's ideal for those who want to increase fitness levels, coordination, balance, and agility in a friendly environment. It was great to see improvements amongst our team players as the games progressed.
We won 1 game out of the 8 that we played, with no lack of commitment and passion - this was evident from the list of injuries we came across! Our team focus was giving it a go, and having fun.
Thank you all the players who participated, and as the saying goes, “participation matters more than victory”. Sport is a great team building exercise, and is a good way to get to know other colleagues working in different departments of the hospital. Joining a social sports team ties in nicely with three of the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' as outlined by the Mental Health Foundation:
- Connect - connect with those who make you feel valued
- Be Active - keep active to boost wellbeing and reduce stress
- Keep Learning - embrace new experiences
We are planning to enroll in the 2022 Futsal McDonalds Winter Adult Competition which starts on July 4th. We would love to welcome more players onto the team, so if you're keen to join please email Elena Gibeviciene (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please see the below flyer for more information.
Hope to see even more Mercy staff on the court at the next game :)
