Capsule Endoscopy is an investigation to examine your small intestine. This is usually necessary to find a source of blood loss (iron deficiency anaemia) not identified by gastroscopy or colonoscopy, investigate for Crohn’s Disease or symptoms that might originate in the small intestine.
The capsule is a small device that can be swallowed whole and that will pass naturally through the small intestine while taking pictures of your stomach and small bowel. These images are send to a receiver that is placed on your stomach, held in place with a belt.
The whole procedure will take about 8 hours during which you can go about your normal daily activities.
