Professional Profile

Dr Mathew Ludgate MBChB, FRACP, ACMS is a specialist dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon. He completed his medical degree with distinction at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Following training in internal medicine and medical oncology at the Dunedin Public Hospital, Dr Ludgate pursued advanced dermatology and dermatologic surgery training in Auckland.

In 2006, he was awarded a prestigious Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, U.S.A. There he gained extensive experience with all aspects of skin surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery, melanoma surgery, nail surgery and advanced facial reconstructive surgery while working with some of the worlds top dermatologic and facial plastic surgeons.

Following his fellowship, Dr Ludgate was recruited to stay at the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor. In recognition of his expertise in skin cancer and skin surgery, Dr Ludgate has been invited to lecture at international dermatology conferences and has authored textbook chapters on skin cancer and cosmetic procedures. He is a reviewer for a number of top medical journals and in 2009/2010 was listed as one of America’s best doctors.
