Mercy's big top

Over the past ten years, Mercy has worked through a capital development and expansion programme to ensure that the hospital is purposefully fit for the future. Manaaki by Mercy, the McAuley Ward and Day Surgery expansion, updated theatres 5 and 6, an expanded Central Sterile Supply Department and a new Pre Admissions area are some of the achievements of this programme so far.

The next vital project is converting the second floor of the original Hospital building back into an overnight stay ward for patients. This project starts with limited demolition work and a re-roof of the Hospital block. If you’re coming to Mercy for surgery over the next six months, you will:

See scaffolding around the building, along with Dunedin’s biggest roof tent! This is so Mercy can keep treating patients while the re-roofing work takes place on half the building at a time.

Hear demolition works taking place on the second floor – this work is happening in sections, and will, at times, be heard in parts of McAuley Ward. If the noise is impacting on your recovery, please talk to your nurse in the first instance.

Experience the same high standard of treatment you would always expect, as Mercy's skilled and compassionate team continue to offer exceptional care that makes a difference.
