With a formal evening event held on 21-May at the Otago University Staff Club, Mercy recognised all of this year's Quality Project submissions, and celebrated the winning entries of the 2026 Quality Awards.
We are proud to announce that the winning project for the Sustainability category was the 'Take Waste, Create Taste' team of Angie Lucas, Emma Paul, Rachel Bond and Claire Casey. This fantastic project was also the Supreme Award winner on the night.
The winner of the Innovation and Creativity category was the 'Right Care, Right Time' project by Niki Bujak.
The 'Patient Experience' award went to Edith Paulsen and Paula Sharp, for their 'Mercy Cancer Care, Invercargill' project.
The Service Excellence category was won by the 'Responsive Expansion of Anti-Staphylococcus Aureus Bundle' project by Sarah Hydes.
And this year, the Catherine Scally Award for Patient Safety was awarded, to Registered Nurse Shona Field.
